The Catholicos Welcomes Young People Who Have Achieved Success in Various Fields
On February 10, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, hosted 120 young individuals who have achieved success in education, science, culture, sports, and various other fields, as well as those who have made significant contributions to public life and the defense of the homeland, on the occasion of the Feast of St. Sarkis. This event was organized by the Central Office of the Armenian Church’s World Youth Federation (ACWYF).
During the meeting, Reverend Father Tovmas Khachatryan, the spiritual supervisor of the ACWYF and the director of the central office, introduced the participating youth to His Holiness, highlighting that each of the young participants has made a commendable contribution to both national and church life.
The Catholicos began his message with congratulatory remarks on the Feast of St. Sarkis, expressing hope that through the intercession of the saint, the aspirations and goals of the youth would be fulfilled.
His Holiness emphasized the significant role of such young people in the enhancement and strengthening of the homeland, the enlightenment of the Armenian Church, and the improvement of the lives of the Armenian people. He expressed hope that their achievements today would lead to even greater successes, not only for themselves but also for the reputation of the homeland and the nation, serving as an inspiring example for the younger generation.
The Catholicos underscored the importance of the Church’s role in the development and preservation of the nation, encouraging the youth to engage in the activities of youth organizations operating under the auspices of the Armenian Church, to contribute to the effectiveness of the Church's mission, and to consistently follow the path that leads to God, as this journey provides spiritual comfort, helps to discover one's identity, and fosters a connection with spiritual values and the rich sacred heritage.
He spoke about the benefits of involvement in church life and addressed the Church’s expectations from the youth, particularly regarding their service to the homeland and the nation.
During the meeting, His Holiness also responded to questions from the youth related to strengthening the youth-cleric connection, ecclesiastical life and youth organizations, issues of preserving Armenian identity in the diaspora, the teaching of “History of the Armenian Church” in public schools, the preservation of historical sites, and various challenges in spiritual life.
