Massive Clashes in Kazakhstan: 8 Dead, 40 Injured
Massive clashes have erupted in Kazakhstan, leading to multiple casualties. Footage circulating on social media shows gunfire and homes ablaze. As of now, there are confirmed reports of 8 fatalities and 40 injuries. Police have detained 47 individuals in connection with the unrest.
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has issued a statement regarding the events in the Jambyl region. He noted, “Last night, clashes and group fights occurred among local residents in the village of Kordaysk in the Jambyl region. Provocateurs attempted to take advantage of the situation. Unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries. I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
Law enforcement agencies and the National Guard are currently maintaining control of the situation. Tokayev has instructed the authorities to take measures to address the consequences of the incident. Earlier, the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs Erlan Turgumbayev reported that around 70 aggressive residents had gathered near the village of Masanchi, where group violence began.
