VIDEO: The Unit is Elite, of Course, Because It Performs Elite Tasks – Armenian Armed Forces Chief on Auroranews Publication
Today, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan, attended the sessions of the commission investigating the circumstances of the April War at the National Assembly. After the commission's work, Davtyan responded to journalists' questions and commented on Auroranews’ publication titled “The 'Elite' Unit of Artsakh, Children of High-Ranking Officials and Cases of 'Suicides': Noteworthy Details.”
In response to a journalist’s question regarding the awareness of Auroranews' well-known publication and the fact that several children of high-ranking officials, including the son of the Director of Military Intelligence of the NSS, serve in the same unit, Davtyan stated, “Let me address the last question: no, I do not see any corruption risks. The son of the NSS director is not under my command; where else should he serve? If he served in any other unit, the same question would need to be asked. The unit is, of course, elite because it performs elite tasks. It stands out with its firepower and is currently active in combat service. Where should we take those soldiers? They serve in Artsakh; they are told they are in Artsakh, we bring them here, and they say they are brought here,” Davtyan highlighted.
Davtyan also mentioned that there are 1,000 servicemen in the unit, and 2 or 3 of them may be connected to someone. “Today, it is difficult to find a unit where 2 or 3 individuals are not connected to any official. If we take 10 soldiers from any of Armenia's units and 2 of them are related to me, perhaps by friendship or blood relation, the same can be true for any official,” he said.
