VIDEO: Auto Importers Hold Protest in Front of Government

Kazakh citizens have been purchasing Armenian registrations from the Georgian market. Tigran Hovhannisyan, the president of the Union of Auto Importers, shared this information during a press conference today, February 5.

“Kazakhstan has noticed that its citizens have registered here for 3-4 days... Thousands of registrations have been sold to Kazakhs in Georgia, particularly in Bagratashen. Now, where are these registrations coming from, where are the stamps? Kazakhstan, realizing these illegal activities and seeing that Armenia cannot regulate its market or protect its citizens... Hundreds of thousands of vehicles that are within the EAEU territory still carry the tax burden on our citizens. We are under blockade; grant us preferential conditions so we can import vehicles under those conditions,” Hovhannisyan emphasized.

He pointed out that they have now found themselves outside the law within the EAEU: “We decided to sell our cars within the EAEU starting January 1, but it turned out we are outside the law. We have come to announce this. Now we want to resolve the issue concerning those 300 vehicles. People brought them on credit; now they are struggling and selling them at water prices just to cover their loan payments.”
