“Even if they laid me on the asphalt, I state with full responsibility that there is no shame in a policeman lying on the asphalt. But one beautiful day, I will lie down, cleaning my feet on them—this will definitely happen.” This was stated today, February 4, by former President of the Football Federation of Armenia, Ruben Hayrapetyan, during a conversation with reporters after leaving the police headquarters.

It is noteworthy that Hayrapetyan was brought in for questioning today on suspicion of unlawfully possessing weapons and ammunition; he was released after three hours.

“If you remember, I made a statement in December after my house was searched that a tank, a BTR, and a BMP were taken from my home. A few days ago, while watching the police chief's speech on television, I saw how slowly he speaks and thinks. If he speaks slowly and thinks slowly, that means he has also understood slowly. In my opinion, he is searching my pockets for SU-35s, tanks, BTRs, and BMPs. Naturally, you understand whose orders these are. It’s another monkey business. They are trying to scare me, but they do not understand that they cannot intimidate a person like me this way—our kind is fundamentally different,” said Hayrapetyan.

Hayrapetyan mentioned that no force was used against him. When asked if any weapons or ammunition had been found on him, Hayrapetyan replied that nothing was found: “I have three legal guns, and I have the permission in my pocket. A person with three legal guns never possesses illegal weapons and ammunition—this is just another show. Two of them are hunting guns, and one is my personal gun for my safety, as you know, an assassination attempt was made on me in the past.”

When asked how the questioning went, Hayrapetyan stated that he was not questioned at all: “These people didn’t ask me anything—what questioning?” When asked if the police had indicated they would bring him in again, Hayrapetyan replied, “I am ready; let them bring me in every day. Naturally, they will not call me. They want to search my car, and I said I wouldn’t allow it until there is a sanction. They also do not return the car, which they have no right to do; they have seized my property.”
