Discussion on Transition to Slaughterhouse-Based Slaughter at the Public Council Meeting
The meeting of the Public Council of Armenia on February 4 discussed developments regarding the government’s decision to transition to mandatory slaughterhouse-based slaughter and its postponement until July 1.
This was reported by the Public Council of Armenia. “The advisory document prepared by the Agricultural Issues Committee of the Public Council, based on the issues recorded and gathered during the public hearings initiated by the Public Council, was presented. The document developed and put forward for discussion in the Public Council is based on two fundamental principles: on one hand, the public interest and the safety of public food, and on the other, the interests of those engaged in animal husbandry. The document unanimously approved by the Public Council offers recommendations to the government on the establishment of slaughterhouses, adherence to sanitary and hygienic norms, ensuring the technical and transportation means, and organizing the slaughter process transparently, along with proposals for subsidizing the additional material, time, and financial costs incurred by those engaged in animal husbandry.
During the meeting, several other issues were also discussed related to the formation of a national system of cooperation and mutual support organizations, existing ecological and health issues in Armenia, and the studies conducted around them.
In the context of Diaspora-Armenia cooperation, two main approaches to collaboration were presented, aiming to develop an innovative project based on them, and present it to the government ahead of several large-scale events expected at the end of this year.
The Council also approved the authorization of council members Karine Danielyan and Gagik Makaryan to engage in committees created by other organizations to present the Public Council’s opinion on ecological and health issues,” the report stated.
