Music Schools Acquire New Instruments: Yerevan Municipality

Recently, Yerevan's music and art schools have been receiving new instruments, including string, wind, and percussion instruments. This was reported by the press service of the Yerevan Municipality.

The property of the schools has a history of decades, with some instruments long serving as museum pieces. The Yerevan Municipality has been implementing a program for acquiring musical instruments since 2017. With the allocated 50 million dram budget in 2019, 110 musical instruments were purchased before the end of the year.

"This program significantly contributes to enhancing the quality of educational programs offered in music and art schools," noted Gosh Sargsyan, head of the culture and tourism department of the Yerevan Municipality.

"It is a very important support that encourages children's admission to sections featuring hard-to-obtain instruments," said Tigran Hekekyan, director of the Sayat-Nova Music School.

Students are the first to open, tune, and test the new musical instruments. Teachers are not left behind, as they evaluate the quality with professional eyes and ears. The key point is that these instruments should serve for a long time and bring success to young musicians.

"This year, for the first time, the program was implemented through a purchasing procedure, thereby creating competitive conditions for organizations operating in the field," Gosh Sargsyan emphasized.

The new musical instruments will be allocated to the best students of educational institutions who lack sufficient resources. With the new instruments, these music schools intend to reach new stages both in Yerevan and abroad.
