Court Takes on Criminal Case Against Serge Sargsyan and Others
The court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan, presided over by Judge Vahe Misakyan, has accepted the criminal case against the third president of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, and others. This information was reported by Armenpress, citing the Datalex judicial information system.
According to the indictment, Serge Sargsyan is accused of committing theft of a particularly large amount of money, 489,160,310 Armenian drams, during his presidency from April 9, 2008, to April 9, 2018. He allegedly organized this theft through a group of officials between January 25 and February 7, 2013, utilizing his official position.
Sergio Karapetyan, who served as Minister of Agriculture from December 31, 2010, to September 20, 2016, is also facing charges. With the encouragement of Barsegh Beglaryan, owner of Flash LLC, and cooperation from his deputy Samvel Galstyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan, head of the plant production department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Karapetyan is accused of wasting state resources amounting to 489,160,310 Armenian drams, in contravention of his duties.
Barsegh Beglaryan is charged with instigating Karapetyan during the implementation of a government support program aimed at allowing farmers to procure diesel fuel at accessible prices for spring agricultural works, resulting in the misappropriation of large state funds.
Samvel Galstyan is also accused of aiding in the misappropriation of state funds during his time as Deputy Minister of Agriculture from April 14 to June 9, 2003.
Lastly, Gevorg Harutyunyan, who served as head of the Ministry of Agriculture’s plant production department from June 25, 2012, to January 12, 2015, is charged with facilitating the same theft through misuse of his official position.
