Djokovic Becomes Australian Open Champion for the 8th Time After Nearly 4-Hour Battle
The men's singles final of the Australian Open has concluded in Melbourne. In the first Grand Slam tournament of 2020, Serbian Novak Djokovic claimed victory. In 4 hours and 3 minutes, he defeated Austrian Dominic Thiem with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Thiem made 5 double faults and converted 5 out of 12 possible break points. Djokovic, on the other hand, recorded 9 aces along with 5 double faults. The Serbian managed to win 5 games after Thiem's serve, converting 5 break points out of the 12 he had.
Novak was able to defend his title, having also won the Melbourne tournament last year. Djokovic has claimed the Australian Open title 8 times, in the years 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, and now in 2020.
