Embassy in Contact with Airport to Clarify Details: Naghdalyan on Milan-Yerevan Flight Incident
Just yesterday, we reported that nearly 50 passengers were affected by the January 28 Milan-Yerevan flight of Ryanair, including young children and pregnant women.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Naghdalyan, stated in a conversation with ArmDaily.am that the embassy is in contact with the airport to clarify the details of the incident and the current situation.
In response to a media inquiry, Naghdalyan noted that there is still no information regarding the affected passengers who are currently in Milan.
Gurgen Ghazaryan, co-founder of Passenger.am, stated in a Facebook live session that he was a passenger on the Yerevan-Milan flight, which was scheduled to depart from Bergamo Airport. “We were supposed to leave at 6 PM local time, but check-in started only 2 hours before the flight, even though more than 100 passengers were being serviced at just one window. It was a disorganized situation because it is physically impossible for one window to handle over 100 passengers. Those 2 hours are only 120 minutes, and the gate closes 40 minutes before departure, meaning passengers had only 80 minutes for check-in, which is simply impossible. It was clear even then that this flight was doomed to have serious problems, and that’s exactly what happened. I personally managed to board the plane, and when we were on the aircraft, it turned out that nearly 40 passengers were unable to board the flight. There were passengers who arrived at the airport 4 hours before the flight, waited for 2 hours, and stood in line, yet they couldn’t manage to check-in in time,” he said.
