Man Stabs Wife After She Refuses to Live with Him

The Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Lori Province has uncovered a case of deliberately causing serious harm to a woman by a 23-year-old man. He has been charged in connection with the incident.

On January 17, 2020, at 18:00, a report was received by the Taroni division of the Police of Vanadzor from the Vanadzor Medical Center indicating that a resident of Vanadzor, born in 1998, was admitted with "penetrating stab wounds to the anterior wall of the abdomen and the left forearm." A criminal case has been initiated at the Lori Regional Investigative Department under the first part of Article 112 of the RA Criminal Code. The 22-year-old Vanadzor resident has been recognized as a victim.

Investigative actions have been undertaken, including an inspection of the crime scene, questioning of several individuals, and the seizure of clothing the victim was wearing at the time of her admission to the hospital. A forensic medical examination has been appointed.

As a result of investigative actions and operational-search measures, the identity of the alleged perpetrator, who is the victim's husband born in 1997, has been established. The investigation revealed that on January 21, 2020, at around 17:30, in an apartment on K. Demirchyan Street in Vanadzor, upon learning of his wife's pregnancy, the man demanded that she live with him. After being refused, an argument ensued during which the young man stabbed his wife with a knife, intentionally causing serious harm to her health.

On the basis of the evidence collected, the 23-year-old man has been charged under the first part of Article 112 of the RA Criminal Code. A restrictive measure of detention has been applied against him. The investigation is ongoing.
