Police Apprehend Pickpockets
On January 20, due to the professional actions of employees from the 6th division of the criminal investigation department of the Yerevan city police and officers from local divisions, three cases of pickpocketing were solved. Two of the thefts occurred in the Kentron administrative district on January 18.
A woman reported to the Central police station that around 6:30 PM, her mobile phone was stolen from her coat pocket on Tumanyan Street. The other incident occurred at the intersection of Abovyan Street and Sayat-Nova Avenue just moments later, where a foreign woman’s wallet was stolen from her bag, containing cash, an ID card, discount, and accumulation cards.
Criminal investigators from the division, in collaboration with the pickpocketing prevention division of the criminal investigation department of the Yerevan city police, received information that the thefts may have been committed by a 31-year-old resident of Arshaluys village. On January 20, the suspect was apprehended on Kurginyan Street in Yerevan and provided a confession.
The stolen mobile phone was recovered. The third incident was recorded on January 20 at the Arabkir police department. Around 1 PM, a woman’s wallet containing cash, a driving license, a vehicle technical passport, identification, and bank cards was stolen from her bag on bus number 259.
With the support of officers from the Arabkir police department, the 6th division of the Yerevan city police's criminal investigation department conducted search operations, and thanks to the professional actions of specialized units, the theft was solved on the same day. Criminal investigators apprehended a 43-year-old resident of Ejmiatsin from Baghramyan Avenue. He provided a confession and handed over the stolen items. Materials are being prepared regarding the incident.
