Emergency Situation in Tzilkar Village: Villagers Risk Their Lives to Rescue Family Members from Burning Cottage
On January 20, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Aragatsotn region. At around 13:35, the emergency rescue service received a report that a fire had broken out in one of the wagon-dwellings in Tzilkar village.
As reported from the scene by photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, before the firefighters from Aparan and Aragats arrived, villagers, risking their lives, managed to pull out all family members from the burning cottage with great difficulty, including minors.
Once the firefighters arrived, they joined the villagers in battling the flames for several hours. Unfortunately, the home, where 54-year-old Mamrre Sargsyan lived along with 51-year-old Irina Sargsyan, 28-year-old Araksya Sargsyan, 26-year-old Emma Sargsyan, 22-year-old Garegin Sargsyan, 6-year-old Vram Aghalaryan, 2-year-old Sargis Ghazaryan, 33-year-old Tigran Ghazaryan, and 83-year-old Emma Sargsyan, was reduced to a pile of ashes along with all of their belongings.
The nine family members, who are in a socially extremely precarious situation, have found themselves on the streets under the open sky. The only consolation is that there were no human losses due to the fire; however, the large family cannot afford to build a new home.
