You Could Fall Victim to Fraud: Passport and Visa Department of the Police
According to the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police, a citizen has reported an incident today that could lead many individuals to become victims of fraud due to naivety.
An unknown person contacted the citizen via social media, posing as a friend residing in the USA, and requested a copy of their passport along with the registration page, allegedly for the purpose of sending money through a bank to transfer to their son serving in the military.
The individual requesting the passport copy also asked for the picture to be taken in such a way that the passport holder is seen in the image, holding the document. After receiving the photographs, the person posing as a friend deactivated their Facebook account.
We urge everyone to be cautious when providing personal information, including copies of documents, and to never share them with unauthorized individuals, particularly through social media.
