VIDEO: Brawl Between 'Blacks and Whites' – Mayor Denies Incident

During the pre-New Year festivities, a serious incident occurred at the 'Caucasus' restaurant between the former and current employees termed as 'blacks' and 'whites', as reported by 168.am.

The clash took place amid former and current members of the Ajapnyak administrative district, reportedly sparked by unpleasant discussions surrounding the division of 'blacks and whites' that has become a trend since the revolution.

According to sources from the media outlet, at the peak of the banquet, several intoxicated participants began to engage in what was perceived as a power-serving conversation, making comparisons between the old and the new, and harshly criticizing former officials, including the activities of the former Republican Party mayor. This provoked the longtime officials of the municipality, and the “political discourse” escalated into a large brawl.

The information we have indicates that the mayor of Ajapnyak, Gevorg Babayan's driver and assistant, who refer to themselves as a “group of whites,” were involved in the incident. Furthermore, according to our sources, four individuals from the 'blacks' group assaulted the chief of staff of the municipality, a businessman, and the driver of the district leader who provoked the incident.

It is said that Gevorg Babayan initially noticed rising tensions in the room with women present, engaged in conversations between 'blacks and whites.' At first, Babayan did not attempt to intervene in the debate among the youth. However, the situation eventually spiraled out of control, leading to men shouting insults and pulling each other, igniting a brawl, after which the mayor disappeared from the sight of the employees.

The Public Relations Department of the Armenian Police stated that no such report has been received. Yerevan City Hall spokesman Hakob Karapetyan also noted that they do not comment on rumors.

Auroranews also contacted Ajapnyak district head Gevorg Babayan. He stated that the news does not reflect reality: “No type of incident or conversation occurred,” he said. Babayan also addressed rumors regarding his dismissal.
