Fake News Circulated in Armenian Groups by 'Broken Profiles' for Months: Abrahamyan

The advisor to Artsakh's president Bako Sahakyan, Tigran Abrahamyan, has raised alarms that for several months now, foreign entities have been spreading false information through stolen and broken accounts on Armenian social media platforms.

“As the topic of fake profiles and various disinformation is currently relevant, I would like to present another recent example that falls within the functional framework of the relevant institutions. I ask that they also work on this issue. For several months now, fake news has been circulating in Armenian groups through broken profiles. Various broken users, who are managed by Azerbaijanis, are disseminating messages aimed at destabilizing the internal political situation in Armenia and Artsakh, disrupting social relations, creating a false agenda between Armenians and Karabakh residents, and fostering or deepening internal enmity,” Abrahamyan stated.

“In any case, for several months now, false information has been circulating in various groups in the name of my friend (and not just his). The posts consistently call for protests and rallies against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Each time we report to the admins, trying to halt the spread of Azerbaijani fake news in the groups, yet the overwhelming majority of group admins do not respond.

Leaving comments under the posts is not particularly effective either. This is a complex problem that requires a comprehensive solution. Yesterday’s example is from this group: https://m.facebook.com/groups/613948301957421.

This user's profile is also compromised: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009590621290. I personally wrote, and the response came from an Azerbaijani, which I will post as a screenshot below.

I urge the organizations dealing with the topic of informational security to address such security issues, to prevent similar cases early on, and to conduct awareness campaigns on the principles of informational security and their risks,” Abrahamyan concluded.
