Bellingcat: The Alleged Launch Site of the Missile That Struck a Ukrainian Plane is an Iranian Base

WRed

Bellingcat investigative reporters have identified the object from which a missile allegedly targeted the Ukrainian International Airlines Boeing 737-800. According to Bellingcat representative Christo Grozev, this object is reportedly a base known as Iran's missile testing site.

He stated that experts, using the flight speed of the Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile and data regarding the location of the plane's destruction, were able to determine the approximate distance from which the missile was fired—6 to 6.5 kilometers.

It is worth noting that earlier, Iranian activist Nariman Qalib published a video on his Twitter microblog showing a bright light in the sky, which he describes as resembling a missile. The activist mentioned that the video was shared with him by a source who managed to capture the moment of the Iranian missile allegedly striking the Ukrainian Boeing 737. He wrote that he cannot definitively verify the authenticity of the video at this time but requested to clarify the coordinates of the area.

According to The New York Times, the video may have been filmed from the village of Parand, located near Tehran. The coordinates of that location are as follows: 35.489414, 50.906917. During their flight through that area, Ukrainian pilots lost communication and went off radar.
