Armenian Wrestlers Depart for Iran
The wrestling Takhti Cup will take place from January 8-10 in Kermanshah, Iran. According to the official website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Armenia will be represented by 16 wrestlers at this international tournament.
Under the leadership of the head coach of the Armenian freestyle wrestling team, Habetnak Kurgyinyan, the following wrestlers have traveled to Iran: Mihran Jaburyan, Razmik Misakyan, Arsen Harutyunyan, Razmik Papikyan, Vazgen Tevanian, Gevorg Mkheyan, Arman Andreasyan, Hrayr Alikhanian, Khachatur Papikyan, Arman Avagyan, Varuzhan Kajoian, Hovhannes Mkrtchyan, Grigor Grigoryan, Mher Markosyan, Marzpet Galstyan, and Andranik Galstyan.
On January 8, qualification matches will be held for the weight categories of 57 kg, 65 kg, 79 kg, 97 kg, and 125 kg. The following day, winners and medalists will be determined in these weight classes, while those in the 61 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, and 92 kg categories will begin their preliminary rounds. The tournament will conclude on January 10 with the finals of the last five weight classes.
Our wrestlers are preparing not only for the upcoming European Championship but also for two qualifying tournaments for the 2020 Olympic Games.
