Hrayr Tovmasyan's Interrogation Will Not Take Place: Makinian

The interrogation of Constitutional Court President Hrayr Tovmasyan, scheduled for today, will not take place. Amram Makinian, Tovmasyan's lawyer, informed Sputnik Armenia about this.

Tovmasyan was charged on December 27 under Article 308 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, concerning abuse of official authority. Prior to this, an investigator from the Special Investigation Service (SIS) had visited the Constitutional Court, where he questioned Tovmasyan.

"One of the members of the defense team is abroad, and we have submitted a request to the pre-trial body to postpone the interrogation," said Makinian.

It is worth noting that on October 17, 2019, the SIS reported that MP Arman Babajanian had submitted a notification to the Prosecutor General about a group of officials who allegedly usurped power. Based on Babajanian's notification, a decision was made to initiate a criminal case under the first part of Article 300 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (usurpation of power by the use of force or the threat of force, as well as by other means not provided for by the Constitution to seize powers of the President, National Assembly, government, or Constitutional Court). Babajanian’s statement pertains to Hrayr Tovmasyan.
