Ani's Border Opens for Armenians

The border of Ani will be opening for Armenians starting next year, thanks to the joint efforts of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, and the Shirak Regional Administration. According to the new regulations, entry into the village of Norashen in Shirak province will no longer require a passport.

“Today, I have a historic announcement: On behalf of the Prime Minister, I declare that starting next year, the Ani border is opening for Armenian individuals, and we will have changes in the border regime without difficulties,” said Shirak Regional Governor Tigran Petrosyan during a conversation with journalists.

It is noteworthy that the border village of Norashen (Kharkov) in the Shirak province is separated from the ancient city of Ani by just the Akhurian River. Currently, entry into this border village is not freely possible, as it requires mandatory permission from the border guard.
