Abuses Uncovered in the Conduct of Masis Mayor; Former Police Chief's Daughter Involved

The National Security Service of Armenia has revealed a case of abuse of official powers by the mayor of the Masis community in the Ararat region.

According to the NSS, preliminary data suggest that staff members of the Masis municipality and council members, acting under the direction of the community leader during 2007-2008, improperly classified one of the council members as a socially vulnerable individual without legal grounds. Consequently, they transferred a 833.2 square meters administrative building belonging to the community, occupied by a private company, to this council member through a donation based on a council decision. Moreover, by another decision, the same council member was transferred a land area of 299 square meters occupied by the mentioned company through a direct sale.

Subsequently, following the mayor's instructions, the mentioned administrative premises and land area were donated to individuals he designated, including his son and the daughter of a former police chief. As a result, the normal functioning of the state authority was disrupted, and the legal regulations governing the transfer of community-owned property and land were not adhered to, leading to the unlawful alienation of state property of significant value and grave consequences.

A criminal case has been initiated in the investigation department of the NSS based on the relevant articles. An investigation is underway.
