I Have No Complexes. We Do Not Surround Ourselves with Attributes of Palace Life. Anna Hakobyan's Interview
In a long-range perspective, the wife of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Anna Hakobyan, addressed her views on palace life, stating that she cannot say what palace life is like because they do not live that life. According to her, the fact that they have bodyguards does not mean they live a palace life.
“Bodyguards are not a part of palace life. In my perception, palace life is something else; those who live a palace life surround themselves with various attributes, of which I do not believe bodyguards or security services are a part. Essentially, we have not surrounded ourselves and do not intend to surround ourselves with the attributes of palace life,” she noted.
Referring to the funds spent on the renovation of their summer house, Anna Hakobyan stated that many of their acquaintances have purchased apartments and renovated them for about the same amount of money that their private house renovation cost.
“Therefore, that is not strange to me,” said the Prime Minister's wife. She added that having a helping hand at home is also not new for her. “For decades, I have constantly had a helping hand at home, stemming from the nature of my work and my husband’s workload,” said A. Hakobyan, indicating that the household worker has assisted with child care and various domestic matters.
Anna Hakobyan addressed the discussions regarding paying her hairstylist $20,000. “I do not know how they calculated it—whether it is an annual salary or something else. But I can say that since September 2019, at my husband’s request, I have not been accompanied by a hairstylist or any other assistant during visits,” said Anna Hakobyan.
She recounted that this started during a visit to the USA when there had been transport-related issues. The Prime Minister’s wife does not rule out that her husband found the expenses related to the hairstylist excessive and decided to eliminate this phenomenon, especially during visits.
“A large portion of the expenses occurs during visits, as there are no transportation or accommodation issues within Armenia,” noted A. Hakobyan. “Now I can say that I have had numerous visits without the assistance of such a specialist,” she said, while also emphasizing that some users on the internet posted pictures from such visits and commented that she appeared unkempt.
“I have no complexes at all; I can also present myself without the help of a specialist. But I believe that this will lead to discussions like whether one looks unkempt, whether it is worth appearing like that, representing the country, and so on,” said Anna Hakobyan and continued, “I suggest that in this matter the public come to some consensus, because this is not one of my primary issues; I love beautifying myself with the help of a specialist and I can present myself with my natural beauty, let’s say.”
