Opposition Demands Criminal Proceedings Against Tbilisi Mayor

Members of the "United National Movement" party have filed two complaints with the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia against Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. The opposition deputies in the city council demand that the investigative body examine his activities for possible corruption. This was reported by "Georgia Online."

The complaints concern two purchases made by the city hall. Notably, the cost of Tbilisi's main New Year tree is 304,800 euros (approximately 1 million laris). City council member Levan Khabeishvili insists that the actual value of the installed tree is ten times less than the amount spent from the budget to acquire it.

The Tbilisi city hall purchased the 25-meter tree from the Italian company IDO SRL to welcome the year 2020. The city authorities have spent over 525,000 euros for the city’s lighting and festive appearance.
