«Hraparak». Prosecutor Overseeing Serzh Sargsyan's Case Resigns and Leaves Position
«Hraparak» newspaper reports that according to its sources, prosecutors overseeing the criminal cases against Serzh Sargsyan and Gevorg Kostanyan are refusing to handle these cases. Despite Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan's generous promises to Prime Minister Pashinyan about initiating and completing criminal cases against former officials, many prosecutors are either declining to investigate these cases or are demanding that their superiors provide written instructions.
“Aside from the moral aspect of the issue, prosecutors understand that any case built on illegal and incomplete evidence will sooner or later create serious problems for them. The leadership will easily evade responsibility by blaming them,” said a source from the newspaper. “They understand that one day the same witnesses—‘Sergokarapetyans’—will tell what they were paid to provide their testimonies.”
Prosecutor Hakob Tadevosyan, who was overseeing Serzh Sargsyan’s case, has resigned from this case and left his position on December 20. The spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office, Arevik Khachatryan, stated it was “in accordance with his own application.” Currently, the oversight of the prosecution in Serzh Sargsyan's case is being handled by the head of the Department of Oversight of the Lawfulness of Pretrial Proceedings at the RA Prosecutor General's Office.
