Boat Carrying Refugees Capsizes in Lake Van
On December 26, a boat transporting illegal immigrants capsized in Lake Van, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, while 64 others were rescued. The incident occurred in the coastal area of Bitlis, as reported by ermenihaber.
A significant number of rescue teams and emergency personnel have been dispatched to the scene. It is noted that human traffickers attempted to transport refugees illegally across Lake Van to avoid detection at checkpoints.
The refugees included citizens from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
