Yerevan Council Approves Yerevan's 2020 Budget
During today’s session of the Yerevan City Council on December 25, the budget for Yerevan city for the year 2020 was approved. The projected revenues amount to 107,146,776.0 thousand drams, while the expenditures are set at 116,259,587.5 thousand drams, resulting in a deficit of 9,112,811.5 thousand drams.
Deputy Mayor Hayk Sargsyan, who presented the draft decision, noted that the activities of the Yerevan municipality, as well as the development and implementation of programs, will be guided by principles of transparency and accountability to the residents. The decision-making process will prioritize the protection of public spaces, the environment, and the cultural heritage of the city, while fostering a culture of participatory governance.
The main priorities of the 2020 program include the continuous improvement of waste collection and sanitation services in the capital, modernization of the elevator economy, ensuring the start of comprehensive modernization of the transport system, preservation and expansion of green spaces in the city, modernization of the irrigation system, development of participatory governance principles, as well as the implementation of various programs in health, education, culture, social welfare, beautification, and other sectors.
The council also approved the revised version of the Yerevan Development Program for 2019-2023. It is noteworthy that prior to the council's approval, public discussions were held regarding the annual and five-year development programs, during which residents and civil society representatives presented their questions, comments, and suggestions about the programs. Council members expressed their observations on various sectors regarding the one-year and five-year development programs.
