What Guarantees That What Happened to David Won't Happen to Another Student? April War Participant
What guarantees that what happened to David Apoyan, the president of the Yerevan State University student council, won’t happen to another student? This question was raised by Shuli Hakobyan, a participant in the April War and a knight of the 2nd degree of the Combat Cross of the Republic of Armenia, on her Facebook page.
“David Apoyan is my friend. He is a strong person, and I am confident that what happened yesterday wasn’t particularly significant for him. David doesn’t even need support all that much. As a friend, I feel at ease,” she wrote.
“But the problem is that not everyone is obliged to be as strong as David. The issue is that many would definitely break, falling into difficult experiences, when faced with a similar situation. So what guarantees that what happened to David won’t happen to another student?”
“YSU should be an academic space. Any illegal external intervention here must be prevented by the YSU leadership. But what can be done if the incident has already occurred? How will YSU attempt to prevent such incidents in the future? What position does YSU hold on this matter as a whole?”
“Tomorrow is the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees. I was elected to the Council three months ago, and I plan to raise this issue tomorrow. I believe that YSU should condemn what happened at the Board of Trustees level, demand the disclosure and punishment of those responsible, and also create mechanisms to prevent such phenomena in the future,” she added.
It is noted that yesterday, the police had taken David Apoyan from the YSU building in handcuffs. He was released after being questioned.
