US to Modernize Incirlik Air Base in Turkey
The Pentagon has announced plans for a large-scale modernization and restructuring of the American Incirlik air base located in Turkey. According to a statement published on the official site of the U.S. Department of Defense, the execution of these projects has been entrusted to eight Turkish companies, as reported by ermenihaber.am.
The project, which is expected to total $94 million, is set to be completed by December 31, 2024. The Turkish companies involved in the project are based in Istanbul, Adana, and Ankara.
Notably, the Pentagon made this announcement almost immediately after President Erdogan threatened to close the Incirlik and Kuricik bases to American forces due to the passage of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide and proposed sanctions against Turkey in Congress.
