No Increase in Water and Electricity Prices for 2020, Says Baghramyan

Consumers in Armenia will continue to pay the existing rates for water and electricity. Garik Baghramyan, the head of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, stated this during a meeting with journalists on December 25.

According to him, the savings in the energy system have allowed for the extension of the nuclear power plant's service life without raising tariffs, even when including the repayment of loans in the tariff. The repayment of a $21 million loan has been factored in.

It should be noted that the loan repayment schedule for extending the nuclear power plant's service life will start in January 2020.

As for the water tariff, consumers will pay the current rate of 180 drams. It is worth mentioning that for 2019, the commission had approved a rate of 191 drams, but consumers were paying 180 drams, with the government providing an 11 dram subsidy.

Regarding changes to the gas tariff, the head of the Regulatory Commission did not provide comments, reiterating that there will be no increase in gas tariffs until April of next year.
