I Apologize to Incarcerated Vahe Meloyan's Wife: Naira Zohrabyan
MP Naira Zohrabyan from the Prosperous Armenia faction wrote on her Facebook page:
“Vahe Meloyan, who has been on a hunger strike for 105 days and does not accept the charges against him, has been on a hunger strike since September 2. Right now, I do not want to discuss the speculations that being on a hunger strike for 100 days or more is impossible and that Vahe occasionally drank sugar water. At this moment, that is not even significant.
My colleagues and I visited the prisoners' hospital and met with Vahe. Naturally, the conversation did not go well because Vahe could barely respond to my questions. All our pleas to end the hunger strike and protect his rights in court were meaningless. Vahe refuses to stop the hunger strike and will definitely not discontinue it.
Now, I am addressing the Penitentiary Service, as there is a specific procedure for cases like this to remove the inmate from a critical condition through medical intervention. Yes, forced feeding is no longer applied, as it is considered a form of torture, but there are other interventions that must be made immediately.
Why am I saying this? Because tomorrow it may be too late, as it was too late in the case of journalist Mher Yeghiazaryan. And I apologize to Vahe’s wife for not being able to convince Vahe to end his hunger strike.”
