David Apoyan Urged Not to Demand Rector Vacancy Competition at YSU
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that on December 26, a board meeting will be held at Yerevan State University (YSU), where the president of the student council, David Apoyan, will present a strong demand to announce a competition for the vacant rector position.
"The authorities are trying first to pass the 'Law on Education' and then to announce a competition so their candidate can succeed. The new council consists of 12 members: 6 appointed by the minister, 4 by YSU, and 2 from the business world. There is a lack of trust in the current council by the authorities, and at the request of Arayik Harutyunyan and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, the competition is being endlessly postponed, something the student council tried to prevent. The acting rector called David and urged him not to make such demands, but it had zero effect. Therefore, yesterday, through a staged event, police were involved to detain Apoyan, dragging him through the university corridors to instill fear among students, ensuring that the meeting the next day proceeds according to the authorities' script,” said a YSU official.
