Misinformation: Council Member on Inquiry Against Hayk Marutyan

As we have already reported, MP Ani Samsonyan from the LHK party wrote on her Facebook page today that the Anti-Corruption Committee has initiated an inquiry against Hayk Marutyan.

Gayané Melkom Melkomyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council’s My Step alliance, commented on this announcement on her Facebook page, stating: "Today, information is circulating that the Anti-Corruption Committee has initiated an inquiry against Mayor Hayk Marutyan on grounds of alleged violations of incompatibility requirements. I would like to mention that the inquiry was initiated back on the 9th, based on an article by the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, which stated that allegedly Hayk Marutyan had served as the director of 'Yerkus u Bes' LLC for about a year alongside his official duties. Therefore, 'Zhoghovurd' has spread misinformation, substantiating it with a suspicious (possibly even forged) document, and then this misinformation has been reproduced verbatim by several media outlets, followed by its dissemination by certain political figures and so on...

Meanwhile, for just 3000 drams, one can obtain the complete information about the company from the state registry's website and see for themselves that a change in directorship was registered back on November 3, 2018, and that the company is now managed by another individual (the decision on the change of director was made on 10.10.2018, as cited in the comments). I have made that request for all of you; please find the extract from the state registry dated 18.12.2019.

PS On the 18th, the municipality sent all documents to the Committee and submitted a request for a conclusion on the absence of a violation of incompatibility requirements.”
