I Informed That I Would Present Myself at the Department, but I Was Detained. Apoyan Clarifies
“In this manner, especially for a student of Yerevan State University, and even more so for a representative of the Student Council, one should not be detained; this was done illegally,” said David Apoyan, president of the Student Council of YSU, during a conversation with reporters. He mentioned that he would contest this decision with his lawyer.
Recall that today at noon, David Apoyan was detained in connection with a criminal case regarding a hooliganism incident that occurred about a week ago. He has the status of a witness.
In his conversation with reporters, Apoyan detailed: “Representatives of law enforcement come into my office, present the grounds, which are very weak, ask questions about recognizing someone, and I say that I am willing to present myself if required by law; there is no problem, but I demand notice or any legal basis, which is not presented. I call my lawyer and try to get advice. In the meantime, they are asking me questions about some secondary or tertiary important person related to the Student Council, and I say that I do not know them; there are hundreds of students in the Student Council, you cannot have information about everyone, you cannot know everyone.”
According to Apoyan, after some time, a representative of law enforcement leaves his office and returns, stating that he must be detained. “This was strange for me; I said, 'Show me the copy of the decision.' My lawyer also said, 'We will go, we will present ourselves at two o’clock.' I informed that I would appear and answer the questions of interest, but as you saw, I was detained.”
Apoyan noted that this behavior was offensive to him. “Especially in a case where I express my willingness, saying that I will come, I will present myself, but since it was related to the law, I had to go with my lawyer.”
The president of the Student Council emphasized that during the dispute that occurred in the yard of the Faculty of Law at YSU, he was inside YSU.
