Samvel Uzunyan Not Summoned for Interrogation, NSS Says

The former judge Samvel Uzunyan has not been summoned for interrogation, as such a summons would require him to be in the procedural status of a defendant or suspect, indicating that criminal prosecution must have been initiated against him, which can only be done by the Attorney General with the approval of the Supreme Judicial Council.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the National Security Service (NSS) Marina Ohanyan in an interview with NEWS.am.

Regarding leaving the country, the NSS spokesperson noted that Armenian legislation prohibits restricting an individual's right to free movement unless criminal prosecution has been initiated against them.

It was previously reported that the Attorney General's Office announced that after the approval of motions submitted by the Supreme Judicial Council on December 20, in the evening, the acting Attorney General, based on a decision made, included Samvel Uzunyan as a defendant in the case, and the decision was sent to the NSS for the purpose of charging him and resolving the issue of preventive measures. His preventive measure was determined to be imprisonment. During the period when the motions were submitted and discussed, Uzunyan left the state border of Armenia, and a decision was made to declare him wanted.
