Khoren Hovhannisyan Will Not Run for the Position of HFF President: Statement
The president of the Ani football club, Khoren Hovhannisyan, will not run for the position of president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA). He was one of the three candidates confirmed alongside FFA Secretary General Armen Melikbekyan and the president of the Lori club, Tovmas Grigoryan.
Hovhannisyan issued a statement regarding this decision, which we present below.
“Dear friends,
I have talked several times in recent weeks about the reasons for my candidacy for the position of FFA president. The main reasons that drove me to this step were two. The first was the imperative to finally bid farewell to the long-standing chaos and situation prevailing in Armenian football, and the second was to breathe new life into Armenian football and to initiate the much-needed changes.
I want to inform you that today I met with the FFA presidential candidate Armen Melikbekyan. Together with Armen, we noted that we share the same vision regarding the development of Armenian football. Although we have differing approaches on certain issues, we concluded in our discussions that we can collectively elevate Armenian football to a new level.
In light of the above, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for FFA president and support Armen Melikbekyan's candidacy. I will do everything in my power to ensure that Armen succeeds in implementing all the plans we have discussed. I will continue to serve Armenian football with my experience and knowledge, supporting our youth in every possible way.”
It is important to note that the elections for the president and members of the executive committee of the FFA will take place on December 23 at the extraordinary assembly of the FFA.
