Judge Samvel Uzunyan in the October 27 case will be imprisoned. The press and public relations service of the staff of the Supreme Judicial Council informs that, “On December 20, the Supreme Judicial Council, examining the request of the Acting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia regarding the initiation of criminal prosecution against the former president of the general jurisdiction court of the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts, Samvel Azat Uzunyan, and the request for his incarceration, has decided:
The requests are granted, and consent is given for the initiation of criminal prosecution against Samvel Uzunyan and for his incarceration.” According to Artmimes.com, it is presumed that Judge Uzunyan is implicated in a corruption criminal case uncovered by the National Security Service (NSS). On November 26, the NSS announced that it had uncovered cases of high-level officials soliciting and receiving particularly large bribes between 2007 and 2009, although the names of those officials were not disclosed. It has been reported that Judge Uzunyan is also involved in this case.
