Makunts on Statements from Cultural Figures Supporting Kocharyan

Cultural figures have exercised their rights and powers as stipulated by the Constitution and laws. This was stated by Lilit Makunts, the head of the My Step parliamentary faction, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, addressing the signatures and statement from 60 cultural figures demanding the release of the accused Robert Kocharyan in the March 1 case.

“Naturally, I do not see any problem with cultural figures in Armenia utilizing their freedom of speech and the opportunity to submit a petition in the legal field to engage in any action. What is incomprehensible is another aspect, that Russian-based cultural figures, as well as individual journalists and others, are showing such activity in voicing their positions. It is unclear because we have never witnessed any public stance from them regarding any issue,” said Makunts.

She noted that there are today certain individuals in Russia who are wanted, and in this connection, the Russian-based cultural figures have not expressed any positive or negative stance. “Or, let’s say, we have not seen any positions regarding issues concerning the national security of Armenia, at least in Armenia,” Makunts concluded.
