Education in Armenia should no longer serve the interests of political parties and current authorities, Mirzoyan

“Diogenes was rightly said: ‘The foundation of every state is its youth.’ Perhaps I will take the liberty to edit this thought slightly: the foundation of every state is the education of its citizens. It is education that must forge true citizens, driving the agenda for development in Armenia. It should not only allow us to keep pace with global developments but also to stay one step ahead in the future.

When discussing reforms in the education sector, we must be honest with each other, identify the problems and challenges, address the blemishes of an education system that has been distorted for years. Before moving forward, we must establish a number of principles. Without their universal implementation, discussing educational reforms in Armenia would be meaningless.

The education sector in Armenia should no longer serve the interests of political parties and current authorities or cater to those interests. Freedom of independent thought should never be suppressed within the educational system, and any manifestation of corruption, from nepotism to bribery, must be rejected,” announced the President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan during parliamentary discussions on December 20, under the initiative of the Permanent Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports, under the theme “Reforms in the Education Sector and Upcoming Strategic Challenges.” According to him, modern education cannot be imagined without critical thinking skills, the incorporation of which into our educational system must become a priority.
