Russia Comments on the Exchange of Detained Individuals Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, addressed the possibility of exchanging individuals detained between Armenia and Azerbaijan during her weekly briefing. She noted that this issue is on the agenda for negotiations and has been discussed in Moscow by the foreign ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, along with the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
“During the meeting, the parties reached a mutual agreement to organize visits for the relatives of individuals detained in the territories of the parties. As you know, with the assistance of the Red Cross, citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan returned to their homeland in June of this year. We welcome this extremely important step, considering it as a first move towards alleviating the situation of those in detention. Work is also underway regarding other detained individuals,” she stated.
Zakharova further added that if such an agreement is reached between the parties, Russia would stand in support.
