Municipality Donations to be Supervised
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that members of the ARF faction in the National Assembly, including Sergei Bagratyan, Vardan Vardanyan, Tigran Stepanyan, Hrant Madatyan, Davit Manukyan, and Janibek Hayrapetyan, have jointly introduced a draft bill to amend the Law on Local Self-Governance in Armenia.
In particular, they propose to change the article concerning donations or contributions made to communities. The draft suggests mandating that communities publish information through mass media as well as on their official websites regarding the sources of donations or contributions exceeding one hundred times the legally established minimum wage, following their acceptance, but no later than one week afterwards.
As is known, there was a significant uproar recently regarding the donations made to the Yerevan municipality, and as justification for the draft, the members of the ARF noted that often such donations are made with the expectation of favorable legal acts or actions that provide economic or other advantages for the donor in the future.
It should be added that there are currently no provisions related to publication, making this a new regulation.
