Judge Lusine Abgaryan Did Not Recuse Herself in the Kocharian Case
Judge Lusine Abgaryan of the Court of Appeals has not recused herself. The court session is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that on December 16, the defense attorney of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, Aram Vardevanyan, submitted a motion for recusal against Judge Lusine Abgaryan. She is set to examine the appeal of Mr. Kocharian's legal team concerning the decision by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction not to release him on bail.
The legal office of the second president reports that the basis for the recusal request stems from media reports concerning the judge's brother, Davit Abgaryan. In particular, Davit Abgaryan had liked and shared a post from singer Serj Tankian, in which he expressed satisfaction regarding the detention of Robert Kocharian, and Lusine Abgaryan also liked this post. Moreover, the judge's brother is a close friend of Vahe Grigoryan, who was a former representative of the victims in this case and is currently a Constitutional Court judge.
