How They Attempted to Kill Vardan Ghukasyan's Nephew

How did they attempt to kill Vardan Ghukasyan's nephew, a member of the National Assembly from the Prosperous Armenia Party? The 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper has learned that the case regarding the attempted murder of Vardan Ghukasyan's nephew has gone to court.

Recall that an incident occurred on May 19 at the 'Artik' penitentiary between two prisoners. Relatives of Vahe Ghukasyan, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of Artem Karapetyan, known by the nickname 'Sheko,' reported that there was an attempt to stab Ghukasyan in prison, and materials were prepared regarding this fact in the 'Artik' penitentiary.

And now, we have obtained details about the attempted murder. Specifically, it was revealed that Harutyun Sargsyan, previously convicted four times, aimed to kill the nephew of the former mayor of Gyumri. Law enforcement officials have charged Harutyun Sargsyan with the intention of unlawfully taking the life of V. Ghukasyan, who was serving his sentence in cell 13 of the mentioned prison building.

According to the investigation, on May 19, 2019, at approximately 10:40 a.m., while being a prisoner in the 4th section of the 'Artik' penitentiary, he pretended to feel unwell and requested that S. Hakobyan, a second-class employee on duty in the same building, open the cell door. After that, he suddenly rushed out of his cell, went up, and entered V. Ghukasyan's cell, using a knife he had taken with him to inflict wounds on Ghukasyan's body, causing injuries that did not lead to any severe consequences. However, he could not complete the crime due to circumstances beyond his control, as he encountered Ghukasyan's resistance. Additionally, these actions were prevented by prison staff, S. Hakobyan and H. Tadevosyan, who were present in Ghukasyan's cell at that moment.

It should be noted that on July 22, 2014, the Shirak region court of general jurisdiction found Vahe Ghukasyan guilty of murder under clauses 1 and 6 of part 2 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code, Article 1 of Article 104 (murder), and Article 1 of Article 235 (illegal carrying of weapons and ammunition).
