Yerevan Municipality Enhances Snow Removal Operations with New Equipment
The Yerevan Municipality announces that preparations for winter are underway at the municipal enterprise "Yerevan Waste Management and Sanitation." Currently, 2000 tons of salt and 3000 tons of sand have been stockpiled.
Special equipment designated for snow removal is ready; all multi-functional vehicles have been converted from sprinklers to salt spreaders. "As of now, we have 21 units of equipment equipped for the winter season and are expecting an additional 8 units, 3 of which have already arrived in Armenia, while the remaining 5 are planned for this year," said Armen Grigoryan, the director of "Yerevan Waste Management and Sanitation".
Employees of the municipal enterprise are on standby for the first snowfall. "All drivers have received their instructions and will be deployed in the event of snow. There are designated officials responsible for specific vehicles. They are continuously patrolling the areas, and if there is no snow but black ice, the vehicles will also be deployed to spread salt," Grigoryan added.
The three multi-functional vehicles currently stationed at the supplier's site will soon be relocated to the municipal enterprise's gathering point. Recently, Mayor Hayk Marutyan observed the preparations for winter. "It is clear that our enterprise has just been established, and the equipment is not fully equipped; therefore, there might be a need to engage other companies in snow removal operations," the Mayor emphasized.
The enhancement of the equipment depot continues, with both local and foreign companies and individual entrepreneurs joining the effort. The city is receiving not only snow removal vehicles but also refuse trucks.
"We live and work here, and we feel like full-fledged residents of Yerevan. When we learned that the municipality needed special equipment for waste management, we took the initiative and decided to assist. Although the support is not substantial, we are happy that it will be beneficial to the city," noted Zhou Hongyun, advisor to the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Armenia.
“We all talk about loving our city and country. It seems to me that beyond just talk, each of us should contribute in some way to build a better city. This idea was the foundation of our decision,” said Gevorg Gevorgyan, CEO of Avangard Motors LLC.
“Our organization operates in Yerevan and generates considerable profit. We decided that we should contribute in some way to the city from that profit. I call on all organizations working in Yerevan to contribute to the welfare of the city if they are able," said Hayk Israelian, director of Alex and Holding LLC.
“Thanks to the revolution, people like us, who have limited resources, were able to come together, create a company and take such steps. Remember the situation in the city during the summer? The four founders of the company decided to do something for the city that could serve as an example. This has truly been our heartfelt desire,” mentioned Armen Asatryan, co-founder of N and S Construction LLC.
“Realizing the challenges in maintaining the city's cleanliness, I offered to help whenever possible. We had no expectation of receiving anything in return. I did this purely for humanitarian purposes—for my city and country. I believe everyone should take similar steps,” said Edward Abrahamyan, founder of A.M. Abram Construction LLC.
The Yerevan city authorities have adopted the principle of promoting corporate social responsibility, which is an internationally recognized practice. "I would like to thank all organizations and individuals who make donations or offer assistance to Yerevan. This is a very important process because, while Yerevan certainly has its budget, the issues we need to address far exceed what the budget accommodates. Therefore, we need the support of our compatriots living in our homeland and abroad," said the Mayor.
The municipality is accepting and will continue to accept assistance from businesses to solve community issues—be it refuse trucks or other equipment, improvements to residential areas, public spaces, or other goods and services. The objective is clear: to collaboratively enhance the urban environment as soon as possible.
