VIDEO: If you turn off our microphone next time, don’t be upset with us – Khajakyan
On December 16, during the Yerevan City Council meeting, the installation of the sculpture "Walking Man" by sculptor Arto Chakmakchyan was discussed, which is to be placed in the area adjacent to Abovyan Street on Northern Avenue.
Prior to the adoption of the project and the conclusion of speeches, a dispute erupted between the members of the "Luminous" faction and Mayor Haik Marutyan. During the discussion on the statue's installation, "Luminous" faction member Tehmine Vardanyan deviated from the topic and made a remark about waste disposal. The mayor then reprimanded her, stating that off-topic speeches are prohibited and instructed to turn off Tehmine Vardanyan’s microphone.
Davit Khajakyan noted during his speech that such incidents of censoring council members' speeches had not happened even during the Republican administration, and they will not allow such occurrences in the future.
Member of the "My Step" faction Hasmik Khachunts also suggested observing a minute of silence in memory of Arto Chakmakchyan before the vote.
Nevertheless, the project was adopted with 47 votes in favor and 1 abstention.
