Video: Man Steals $70,000 and Buries It on His Property, Police Say
On December 11, a man reported to the Masis police department that someone had broken the lock on the iron door of his inactive company’s warehouse, entered, and stolen $70,000. This was reported by the public relations department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia.
Officers from the police and investigative committee who arrived at the scene determined some circumstances of the incident. A criminal case has been initiated. Detectives from the Ararat regional police department and the Masis division, in collaboration with officers from the Artashat division, managed to locate the suspect within hours of operational activities.
The former night watchman of the establishment came under police scrutiny. After obtaining factual evidence regarding his connection to the incident, the 58-year-old man living in Nor Kharberd was apprehended by the Masis police on December 12. On the same day, police and investigative committee officials conducted a search of the apprehended person's home.
According to the data obtained, it was reported that the stolen money was buried in the yard of the property. Law enforcement discovered and seized $50,000 and €3,000. Currently, according to the investigation, the man had given the stolen money to his 25-year-old son, instructing him to bury it on the property. The son, unbeknownst to his father, had taken several thousand dollars from the stolen funds and even bought a car, which has been moved to the police's designated storage area in Masis.
The 58-year-old man has been arrested. The preliminary investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
