VIDEO: Police Uncover Armed Robberies in Yerevan and Regions

From November 30 to December 6, five armed robberies occurred in Yerevan, Kotayk, and Ararat provinces. Criminal cases have been initiated, and law enforcement is doing everything possible to find the criminals.

The first incident took place in Ararat province. On November 30, two masked individuals entered a grocery store in Myasnikyan village and demanded money, threatening the owner with an object resembling a pistol. They stole cash, a laptop, and two mobile phones from the cash register.

While police from the Baghramyan division were taking measures for the investigation, another robbery was reported to the Kotayk police department. On December 1, two masked suspects entered a 24-hour grocery store on Republic Street in Abovyan city and stole cash and a mobile phone under the threat of a weapon-like object.

Two days later, yet another report of armed robbery was filed at the Mashtots police department. Two masked individuals entered one of the supermarkets in Davitashen, brandishing a knife and an object resembling a firearm, and stole cash from the register.

The fourth incident occurred on December 5 in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative area. Three masked individuals, threatening with a weapon-like object, a knife, and a stun gun, stole cash, a computer, and three mobile phones from a gas station.

The last robbery took place in Mayakovski village of Kotayk province. On December 6, around 4 PM, three young men entered a pensioner woman’s house and, according to her, stole gold jewelry, cash, and an expensive watch under the threat of weapons, causing approximately 2,000,000 AMD in material damage.

In the search for the robbers, the police implemented various measures. Different police units collaborated on the investigation, both from the capital and the regions. The surveillance cameras from two of the stores captured the suspects, but the masks made it impossible to identify them. The method of operation suggested that the robberies were the work of the same criminal group.

Continuing their efforts, just hours after the last incident, the police received information that not only revealed the identity of the suspects but also their locations. With cooperation across various police units, extensive operational and investigative measures were conducted, leading to information indicating that the robberies may have been carried out by four young men, one of whom was from Yerevan, while the other three were residents of Gyumri.

On December 7, the suspects were identified and taken to the Kotayk police department. The Gyumri residents were apprehended on the Gjumri-Vanadzor highway, while the Yerevan resident was caught in Mayakovski village, where his pensioner grandmother lived, and was believed to have directed his friends to attack her house.

The suspects have been arrested. During searches of their residences, vehicles, and personal belongings, police found an airgun resembling a metallic structure, a mask, a knife, a blunt weapon, gloves, mobile phones, cash, a watch, and a camera, among other items, which are suspected to be stolen. Investigations are ongoing. The pre-investigation of the initiated criminal case continues.
