Stray Dogs Maul 32 Chickens Belonging to Citizen in Yerevan
In the Avan-Arinj district of Yerevan, stray dogs have mauled 32 chickens belonging to Suren Arakelyan. In an interview with Armenian Time, he recounted that this morning around 8:00 AM, he opened the door to the chicken coop and let the birds out into a fenced area. However, half an hour later, when he came down from his apartment, he discovered the incident. Neighbors reported that the dogs had entered the fenced area.
Suren Arakelyan has a small space in the backyard of an apartment building in the Avan-Arinj district where he has been keeping chickens for several years. “The fence was very sturdy, but the dogs dug under it and got in. There were five or six dogs, gray in color. They were so furious, it was as if they were wolves,” said the chicken owner.
According to Suren, a couple of the dogs were injured, and he noticed yellow substances on their ears, but they were extremely aggressive and attempted to harm him as well. He had to defend himself with a shovel. “I see those dogs around the area, they are very risky. The neighbors are also complaining, saying they always scare the children when they go to school,” he added.
Suren noted that this is not the first time he has been a victim of a stray dog attack. Similar incidents had occurred lastspring in his chicken coop, but he never discovered how many dogs were involved or how they managed to breach the well-fenced area since there were no visible signs of digging at that time.
