Pack of Coyotes Devours Over 25 Ostriches in Ararat, Damage Estimated at 4 Million Drams
Today, on December 4, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Ararat region. Around 10:45 AM, a call was received at the 9-11 operational management center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, reporting that a large number of ostriches had been devoured under suspicious circumstances in the area of a newly constructed ostrich farm in the administrative territory of the city of Masis.
According to shamshyan.com, operational groups from the Ararat Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Masis Police Department arrived on the scene. The police and rescuers found 25 mutilated ostriches aged 4-7 months, and an additional 8 ostriches sustained injuries. Specialists are currently trying to determine whether the ostriches were attacked by coyotes or foxes.
The mentioned farm was established by 65-year-old Armenak Asatryan, a resident of Masis, through a loan, and it was expected to create job opportunities, which would have been significant for the local residents. The source reports that the owner of the farm has suffered damages amounting to approximately 4 million drams.
