22 Protesters Demanding Araik Harutyunyan's Resignation Detained
Twenty-two individuals from the youth wing of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) have been detained at the central police department for demanding the resignation of Araik Harutyunyan, according to Edgar Janoyan, deputy head of the Public Relations and Information Department of the Police of Armenia, in a conversation with Aysor.am.
"They were brought to the police based on Article 182 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Republic of Armenia for failing to comply with a lawful demand of the police," said Janoyan. The young protesters were heading towards the Central Police Department to inquire about the reasons behind their friends' detention.
Earlier today, at 3:00 PM, representatives of the ARF youth organization arrived in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports for a meeting with the minister. Upon realizing that the minister was not meeting with them, they breached the police barrier and staged a sit-in protest.
Police forcibly removed them from the entrance of the ministry, resulting in four individuals being detained. Following that incident, the youth conducted a sit-in protest on Vazgen Sargsyan Street. After several warnings, the police also forcibly dispersed them from the street.
