Dispute Over Exclusion from Family Gathering Ends in Stabbing

On December 1, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Lori province. Around 20:50, the Vanadzor Medical Center reported to the Taron police department of Vanadzor that two citizens had been admitted in a stabbing condition. This was reported by shamshyan.com.

A police operational group from the Taron department, as well as a group from the Lori provincial police and the investigative committee of Lori province, were dispatched to the hospital. The police determined that the wounded individuals were 23-year-old Sargis Kharatyan, a resident of Tavoros Street in Vanadzor, who was brought in with a diagnosis of “penetrating stab wound to the front abdominal wall,” and 50-year-old Arthur Kharatyan, a resident of 20th Tavoros Street. The doctors informed law enforcement that they were in surgery and unable to provide explanations about the incident.

According to the source, Lori province police and investigators established that on the same day, around 20:20, a dispute erupted near the Taron 2 building because a family gathering had not invited A. Kharatyan's sister's son, 23-year-old Azat Shahnazaryan, a resident of the Taron 2 neighborhood in Vanadzor. During the altercation, Shahnazaryan stabbed both A. and S. Kharatyan with a knife he had on him. Police and investigators also learned that 27-year-old Narek Kharatyan from the Taron 4 neighborhood of Vanadzor participated in the mentioned argument.

As a result of joint operational-investigative actions by the police and investigators, and subsequent explanatory work, Shahnazaryan surrendered to law enforcement on December 2, taking full responsibility. A criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department under the first part of Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia against him. Shahnazaryan has been arrested.
